Introduction to Affiliate MarketingIf you’re brand new to online marketing, you may have never heard of an affiliate program before. Here’s a brief description of what an affiliate program actually is. Many affiliate programs, including the Developing Athletics Affiliate Program, are generally pay-per-sale marketing programs for products or services, based on the concept of revenue sharing. Developing Athletics will pay you a cut of our profits on a commission basis for any and all sales you create for us through the introduction of new customers. If you have a website already, you’re off to a good start with your potential as an affiliate marketer. If you have an e-mail newsletter list of qualified, prospective customers, you’re at a huge advantage. However, if you don’t have a website or a newsletter, don’t fret – there are still ways to make money with affiliate marketing immediately. In layman’s terms, by becoming an affiliate of Developing Athletics, you become an online salesperson working on a commission basis. You’re not actually an employee of our company, but an independent contractor. One of the best things about affiliate marketing is that the entire sales process is our job, not yours. If you help us introduce qualified, prospective customers, we’ll help you close the sale with our hugely successful sales process. The reason that affiliate programs are so lucrative and popular for online businesses is because they are very easy to operate, especially for the affiliates. Developing Athletics provides quality content and other marketing materials for you. We make selling easy for you by giving you sales copy, product images, banner ads, etc. You can just copy and paste our materials onto your website or into your e-mail newsletter and let the magic happen, or they can serve as examples to help you find ways to personalize your promotions. The Developing Athletics Affiliate Program offers a 40% commission on all sales you provide for us. With our Complete Athlete Development product selling for $247, your commission comes out to a whopping $98.80 per sale! Our affiliate program benefits us with increased sales and increased customers and it offers you, our affiliate, a supplementary income with very little work on your part.
If you do those four things, you could start making money immediately. Now, if you don’t have a website or an e-mail newsletter list – perhaps you have no online presence at all, you can still make money online with our program. The Google AdWords Program is for those of you that want to get started without a website or list of qualified, prospective customers. Google AdWords requires no resources to get started selling, but it is tricky and easy to get in over your head in the beginning. Look for a future article on how to use Google AdWords to promote Developing Athletics products. For now, I recommend researching Chris Carpenters “Google Cash” program, which is a how-to program for Google AdWords and Perry Marshall’s “The Definitive Guide to Google AdWords,” which is a how-to-do-it-right program. Once you sign up for our affiliate program and begin to market for us, what then? Here’s a brief explanation of what happens when you publish your personal affiliate link on your website or in an e-mail newsletter. Let’s say that you have a website and you post a banner ad on your links page with your affiliate link embedded in it (so that when a site visitor clicks on the ad, they are clicking on your affiliate link). That visitor will be redirected to www.developingathletics.com (or one of our sales pages if you’d like – of course, you get to choose where to send your traffic). When one of your customers clicks through your affiliate link, a “cookie” is placed on that user’s computer. This cookie is a tiny tracking file that will remember that user’s computer information, essentially saying that “John Doe” clicked through this link on January 1, 2008 at 12:01pm. So in the future, if a purchase is made using that same computer, that cookie will be used to track the sale and a commission will be granted by our merchant account service to the affiliate who referred the sale - you. Cookies will last indefinitely, or until that user clears the cookies off of his or her computer’s hard drive. The entire tracking process is automatic – once your affiliate link has been published and clicked-through, any purchases made on that computer through our shopping cart system will be tracked and commissions will be paid on a monthly basis. So, that’s a brief synopsis of what an affiliate program is and how it works. Please don’t hesitate to send me any questions about getting started with affiliate marketing. I’m here to help you with anything and everything.
Sincerely, John Sifferman |
